Lubavitch Menorah Parade

Date: December 3, 2010

Section: Editorial

It's one of the neatest, coolest events ever. Some 75 vehicles with a menorah on each car will parade from the parking lot of Yeshivat Rambam in Upper Park Heights with a police escort to a menorah-lighting festival near the Inner Harbor in downtown Baltimore this weekend. According to regional Chabad Lubavitch leader Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, the event is being held in cooperation with the City of Baltimore and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake's office.

The menorah-lighting ceremony will take place at McKeldin Square, which is located at the corner of Pratt and Light streets. Rabbi Kaplan didn't lose his sense of irony that the event is at Light Street. The Baltimore Police Department will block off a special lane for the menorah cars. The route will take the parade on the Jones Falls Expressway into downtown. This is the largest number of cars ever to participate in this annual Chabad event.

It will also mark the beginning of a competition for a menorah design that will be used each year at the same location. If the mood strikes you, this is really a fun, exciting event for the entire family, to see so many menorahs lighting up the night in Baltimore. The cars will leave from the Rambam parking lot at approximately 7 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 4. Happy Chanukah!.
