Kabbalah is going downtown next week with a lunch-and learn for business people at the law offices of Ober, Kaler, Grimes & Shriver (120 E. Baltimore St.).The course, a six-week lesson called "Soul Maps, "is a new offering from Chabad Lubavitch's Jewish Learning Institute. The class is geared to helping people discover new strategies for overcoming obstacles to change and progress.

"Our mission is to make Judaism more accessible to professionals during the business day, "said Rabbi Levi Druck, director of the downtown Chabad chapter. "Everyone needs to eat lunch. Why not eat lunch and learn something? It's also an opportunity to network."

The course begins Nov.12 at 12:30 p.m. This is the first time a JLI course is being offered in such a venue in Baltimore. In the past, JLI classes have been taught in the Pikesville area by Rabbi Elchonon Lisbon of Bais Lubavitch Synagogue and in Columbia by Rabbi Hillel Baron. "Soul Maps" will be available in those venuesNov.12 toDec.17 at 7:30 p.m.

Another way to study "Soul Maps" will also debut next week-in Russian. RabbiVelvel Belinsky, who directs the Ariel-American-Russian Institute for Enrichment of Life, will teach the class at the Lubavitch Center in Smith-Green Spring.

Rabbi Belinsky said there are around 18,000 Russian immigrants in Baltimore. He said he expects about 50 people to sign up for the class.

"This course is particularly interesting to the Russian community because it discusses the soul. In Russian communist schooling, the concept of a soul was never addressed, "he said.

Baltimore will be the only place in which a Russian "Soul Maps" will be offered. JLI's courses are taught in English at more than 300 places world wide.

Costs for "Soul Maps" range from $59 to $95, depending on the location.
